A Brief History of Putaruru PrimaryThe school opened in 2004 after a Ministry driven network review took place in the Putaruru area and four schools merged. These schools were Putaruru West, Oraka Heights, Cambridge Street School and Puketurua/Arapuni Combined. These four schools moved on to the Intermediate site after the intermediate school merged with the local Putaruru High School. The initial roll calculation was for 420 students and 17 classrooms. Putaruru has always been fortunate with the calibre of staff working at the local schools. Putaruru Primary made the most of these experienced staff and after reconfirmation was able to make the most of the dedicated, professional team available to them. All teachers are willing to cater for individual children’s needs, furthering their professional development to keep up with all new curriculum documents. With around 45% of the children being Maori there is a commitment to bi-culturalism.
