Our New Team Names: Reflecting the Journey of Learning at Every Stage

At the end of 2024, we decided to reimagine our team names, aligning them with our commitment to fostering strong foundations in literacy and mathematics in the early years and supporting tamariki in expanding their knowledge, collaboration, and critical thinking as they progress. These new names better reflect the unique journey of each phase, highlighting the specific goals and values we instill at every stage of learning.

We now have two distinct teams, each aligned with the phases of learning as set out in the new curriculum: Te Puna o Te Waihou (The Source of New/Fresh Waters) for our Year 0-3 tamariki in Phase 1, and Te Awa o Waikato (The River) for our Year 4-6 tamariki in Phase 2.

In Te Puna o Te Waihou, we focus on laying strong foundations for learning, ensuring that our younger tamariki are thriving in environments rich in literacy and maths. As tamariki progress into Te Awa o Waikato, the focus shifts towards expanding their knowledge, enhancing collaboration, and developing critical thinking as they grow in confidence and skill.

We are proud to share that our parents and whānau had a say in choosing the names from a selection of options, reflecting the importance of community involvement in shaping the identity of our kura. These new team names reflect the journey of our tamariki, with each phase symbolizing the distinct path of growth and learning they take as they move through our kura.

We are excited to see how this aligns with the new curriculum and continues to support the development of our tamariki at each stage of their education.
