Cultural Kete

Raukawa Cultural Kete – A Collaborative Framework for Te Ao Māori Learning

We are proud to have developed a meaningful partnership with Putaruru Kāhui Ako,  Tokoroa Kāhui Ako and Raukawa to co-create a Cultural Kete – a resource designed to support kura and early learning centres in delivering te reo me ngā tikanga o te ao Māori in a way that is locally grounded and culturally authentic.

We acknowledge that this is an ongoing journey, and we remain committed to walking alongside Raukawa as we continue to grow and develop this kaupapa together. Updates will be shared as our journey evolves.  For now, this is what we have in place.

The Raukawa Cultural Kete is thoughtfully structured into four progressive kete (stages), allowing schools to grow their cultural capability over time.

We begin with Kete 1: Whāinga Matua – our non-negotiables. This kete lays the foundation for shared learning across our Kāhui Ako. Our goal is that all kura and centres within our Kāhui Ako will implement Kete 1, so that no matter where our tamariki go, they are connected through consistent cultural knowledge and understanding.

What’s Inside Kete 1?
This kete contains resources suitable for beginners in te ao Māori, covering a range of key areas:

  • Waiata (songs)
  • Raukawa local pūrākau (stories), including inquiry-based lesson plans
  • Karakia (prayers and blessings)
  • Te Reo Māori, with focus on kupu (vocabulary) and values

These resources are designed to be practical, easy to use, and deeply reflective of the unique identity and mana of Te Ao Raukawa.

Resource Access
