At Putāruru Primary School, we believe in nurturing strong, respectful relationships between home and school. Open communication is a vital part of that – and so is recognising the importance of balance and wellbeing for everyone in our kura whānau, including our hardworking kaiako (teachers).

Our Communication Guidelines – Honouring Time and Wellbeing
8:00am – 3:00pm
This is preparation, teaching and learning time. During these hours, our kaiako are fully present with school life and your tamariki – teaching, supporting, and guiding them through their day. To protect this learning time, teachers will not be checking or replying to emails or messages.

3:00pm – 4:30pm
Teachers may check and begin responding to messages after school hours, as part of their planning and preparation. However, please understand that many also have meetings, responsibilities, and importantly – their own whānau to care for and spend time with.

We kindly ask that you allow up to 48 hours for a response, excluding weekends and public holidays. This gives teachers the space to respond thoughtfully, without pressure or urgency.

Need a longer kōrero? Let’s book a time.
Some conversations need more time than a quick message allows. If you’d like to meet with your child’s teacher, we welcome you to contact the school office to arrange an appointment at a time that works for everyone. This ensures your concerns can be heard properly and respected within a calm, uninterrupted space.

We appreciate your support in helping us look after our teachers, just as they look after your tamariki. When we honour their time, energy, and wellbeing, we help them bring their best to the classroom – and go home with enough left to give to their own whānau too.
