Mitey – Building Mentally Thriving Children

Mitey is an evidence-based, school-wide approach to teaching mental health education, designed specifically for New Zealand children in Years 1-8. Developed by the Sir John Kirwan Foundation, Mitey integrates mental health education into everyday teaching and learning, aligning with the New Zealand Curriculum and Mental Health Education Guidelines.

Key Features of Mitey:

  • Whole-School Approach: Mitey engages teachers, staff, and communities to support children's mental well-being collectively.
  • Dedicated Coaching: Schools receive ongoing guidance and professional development from experienced Mitey coaches.
  • Customised Resources: The programme offers a range of curriculum-based materials tailored to each school's unique culture and values.
  • Focus on Mana: Mitey emphasises fostering children's innate mana, helping them build confidence and resilience.
  • By embedding mental health education into daily school life, Mitey aims to equip children with the knowledge and skills to nurture their own emotional well-being and support others.
