Mathematics

Mathematics at Putāruru Primary School

At Putāruru Primary School, we are committed to providing high-quality mathematics learning that is clear, engaging, and aligned with the latest research and curriculum developments.

In 2025, we are actively transitioning to the refreshed Mathematics and Statistics learning area of the New Zealand Curriculum. This new curriculum is grounded in the Science of Learning, helping us better understand how children learn mathematics — from hands-on, concrete experiences through to abstract thinking.

While we have introduced Prime Maths as a government-funded resource to support classroom instruction, it is used as a supporting tool — not a programme. Our main source of learning and teaching remains the New Zealand Curriculum, which provides the framework and direction for all maths learning across the school.

Our focus is on meeting learners where they’re at, ensuring that every child feels confident and capable in maths. Whether it’s working with fractions, exploring patterns, or building strategies for problem-solving, our learners are supported every step of the way.

Maths at Putāruru Primary is more than just numbers — it’s about growing thinkers, problem solvers, and confident learners ready for whatever comes next.
